I been a vegetarian for a while but my parents are barely starting to react negative.
They started to put meat pamphlets on my bed and they wave meat in my face.
Do any of you have any horror stories?
How do I make them stop…any snappy comments?

I am a true vegetarian since I don’t eat meat. I am not freaking lecturing them, their the ones that feel that their opinion is better than mine. I am not doing this to be different, you I am doing this because I actually care. I am not getting preachy…since I don’t like to argue with narrow minded people. It may have been my choice not to eat meat but I haven’t stopped them from eating meat. You should also take your own advive and not “Don't be preachy to those who decide not to do it”

Ugh, that is so rude of your parents, but maybe they are just trying to show you that they care and are worried that you aren't getting enough protein. Do some research on vegetarian eating, present it to them, and suggest some healthy foods that the whole family can enjoy, meat free.

Start leaving vegetables in their bed, car, pocket book, dresser drawers, jacket pockets, etc. - or invite them to take a tour of a meat processing plant, and maybe show them a video of how these food farms are operated and what these animals have to go through - it might make them see things in a different light. It probably won't change their eating habits, but it might make them understand why it upsets you so much.

I think, if you truly were into the Vegetarian deal then it would not bother you who thinks your choice is not right. I do believe if you want to be a true vegetarian. Stop lecturing others about eating meat. As long as you are not eating it, then, theres no problem. I would also suggest. One cannot just become a vegetarian without consulting with a physician first to make sure they are put on the right vitamin supplements. That is the healthiest way for your body. A good step to start at. If your doing this to be "different" then those around you, the vegetarian is not for you. Stick to your belief. You will get harassed. Don't be preachy to those who decide not to do it. Thats their choice as much as its your choice not to eat meat.

I would just look them in the eyes and say "Mom, Dad, I love you. I need you to know that it really hurts my feelings when you put meat pamphlets on my bed. I would appreciate it if you could respect my decision to be a vegetarian."

Meat pamphlets? I've never seen such a thing.

Anyway, how is it that your parents are less mature than their daughter. Maybe you need to sit them down and explain a few fundamentals, like respect. And when they wave meat in your face you could always tell them to stop playing with their food. Since they are acting like 10 year olds, I suspect they'll stop for the same reasons 10 year olds give up eventually: they're not getting a reaction from you. Ignore it.

yeah, I was a born vegan and mines use to do the same thing, just explain to them how important it is to you for them to support you or at least understand. Eventually it will be old news to them but once in a while they'll make a few cheesy jokes like 'want some chicken or something', as I said their jokes eventually begin to sound weiry.

They are acting this way because they fear for you. That's what parents do fear for their kids. If they are reasonable people and you can talk to them show them all the research that shows being vegetarian is very healthy. Also bring up the fact that now there is good whey, soy, and hemp protein that can replace meat for amino acids. If you are not taking hemp protein you may want to it is fantastic.
Also show your parents how your diet increases life span and reduces many diseases. Did you know that a good vegetarian diet high in berries and dark roots reduces cellular inflammation and aging! Another good point is that because you are getting enough fiber unlike 95% of Americans you have put the brakes on heart disease and cancer! Have you heard that the colon is the organ most looked at in an autopsy. Your diet keeps your colon very healthy.
I think you may want to read more about the benefits about your diet so that you already know the merits of your choice. Also this is a good opportunity to realize that sometimes your parents will disagree with you about your choices. Now always listen to them because they love you but remember this is your life, your future, and your health. You in the end will be living with the results of what you choose. Enjoy your choice it is a great one

just tell the truth. Say you're trying out a new lifestyle and you would like to give it a fair shot.

They're probably worried that you're not eating enough protein... you can get protein out of dairy products, nuts, peanut butter, tofu, edamame... but I'm sure you already knew about all of these. Reassure them that you're eating protein... actually, why not keep a food diary? And if they hassle you, show them that day's entry so they can see for themselves what you've had for your protein source.

I think you should move out. I'm sure they would be relieved to hear no more whining. Then again, they would miss out on the fun of putting meat pamphlets on your bed . . LMAO.

Sounds like you have charming parents with a lovely sense of humour about the absurd. Treasure them.
